The extended mind thesis, introduced by Clark and Chalmers in 1998, proposes that cognitive processes can extend beyond the brain to include aspects of the physical and social environment. This thesis challenges traditional boundaries in cognitive science by arguing that external resources can play constitutive rather than merely causal roles in cognition when coupled with internal processes in appropriate ways.
